Dear all, I am trying to find an alternative to OpenFOAM that can compile on macOS. Right now we're switching from Star-CCM+ to OpenFOAM since we need to develop some custom code, but OpenFOAM is hard to compile, and using Docket is not an option. I need to model a nozzle ejecting a fluid (probably a particle method), and a phase-change with a free-surface method (like volume of fluid).

The latest release of Symscape’s ofgpu (v0.2) for OpenFOAM® 2.0.x is now available. Ofgpu is an open source experimental linear solver library that targets NVIDIA CUDA GPU devices on Windows, Linux, and (untested) Mac OS X. Ofgpu now has support for the Cusp preconditioners. OpenFOAM® Installation on Mac OpenCFD Ltd. Uses Docker Hub to distribute pre-compiled versions of OpenFOAM for Linux, Mac OS X and Windows, including a complete development environment. Docker containers enable binaries compiled on a given Linux environment to be run on other platforms without any performance degradation.

Actually, I can survive with developing two tools, one for the nozzle, another for the phase, and make it work with some Python scripting, so if you know of two softwares that can handle the two issues I'd be happy. If there is one software that handles both I would be happier:) Or, if you succeeded in compiling OpenFOAM 5 on macOS, please share your story, I am really beginning to hate that tool. This sounds like a really bizarre use case. What do you want to develop in openfoam that you can't do in starccm+? And presumably you're currently paying the hefty price for the commercial tool, why can't you spend a few thousand on a Linux machine if you're switching to openfoam? So many questions! Well, I am using Star-CCM+ but we'd like to move to another tool, OpenFOAM was suggested, and you know, being free is quite appealing.

The problem is not having a linux machine, it's that I need to write software that interacts at low level with OpenFOAM and I need, apparently, to have this machinery work on a mac. Linux is up and running, I use ssh and start CLion there with no problems, but on the platform my colleagues want it seems that we have no chance. A sw handling phase-changes, and another handling particle dynamics would work, even if separate, but all I am suggested is OpenFOAM. I am open to any possible solution, truly. No such thing as free:) CCM already handles phase changes and particle dynamics in applications transparently and they can interact in pretty complex ways, so I'm wondering what 'low level' interactions you need to implement that aren't available and you really need to code your own models in openfoam.
